So often we are asked, how do you get to do what you and your husband do? I could list all the things we have done and we have achieved over many years but the point is this, how did we get there? The secret is very simple. It started with being willing to take the first step, and then take the next step and the next.
No one, no matter who they are, got to where they are today by taking one giant leap. It was step by step, day by day and sometimes just doing the same old boring strokes that was required to see results.
Where do you see yourself in five years? Even in the next twelve months? How long have you been dreaming to be at a certain point in your life, and yet find that you are still at the starting gate? You need to ask yourself a question. ‘What do I need to do, or do differently, to move from where I am now, to be where I want to be?’
Friends on ours had a dream to start a unique business as an outreach that would be a blessing to others. Every time we met them, they would talk about this unique idea they had and how every time they thought about it, dreamed about it, and strategised about it, they would get excited. However, after their initial excitement, they would then get frustrated because it had not happened yet. Each time we found ourselves discussing this business idea with them, we would ask the same question to them; ‘What steps have you taken to make this a reality?’ They would always answer; ‘Yes, we know, we have to get it going. We are going to.’
I don’t have to tell you that this kind of thinking will get you nowhere. The good news is, they eventually wiggled out of their comfort zone and took the risk, and today their business is not only up and running, but they are achieving the goal of seeing many people in their communities blessed because of their unique service.
When I wrote my first book, I thought; ‘Who am I to write?’ God had spoken to me to write and that my books would bless many people around the world. I procrastinated for ages because I did not believe I had the eloquent words to say. I knew I could sit no longer with this growing passion rising up in my spirit so I made a deal with God. I knew what He wanted me to write about, but how was I going to pour it out onto the pages of a book? I said; ‘Ok God, you want me to write, I will commit this to you. I will physically open my computer. I will start a word document. I will put my hands to the keys, but you speak through me.’ Every time I sat at my computer to write, God breathed on my insufficient words and made them mighty words to bring healing and wholeness and action to people’s lives. I have since written a second book and my third is bubbling inside of me.
My question to you today is this. What have you been sitting on? Today is the day to take a step forward. Who and what do you need to do to help you make it a reality? Be brave and tell someone what is in your heart to do. Tell your Aaron or Hur. Your safe people. The ones who will encourage you and spur you on and make you accountable to see it become a reality. To be your cheer squad telling you to keep putting one step in front of the other.
There will be times where you doubt yourself, but if God has spoken and you know that you know this is what you are meant to do, you will achieve your goals and your dreams if you keep putting one step in front of the other to see all that is in your heart birthed.
