Set the Date

Trusting God in your journey, saying YES to each step is key to arriving at the destined place God is calling you to, however, one major step in turning that key is definitely setting a date. You can be sharing your call, your vision, your dream, your goals, your next step, and preparing all you need to, but still be sitting in a comfortable position because you haven’t nailed your colours to the mast when it comes to defining your D Day – the date you will step into what you have been preparing for all this time. There is absolutely no risk or faith in that. At some point, you are going to have to put a stamp on a day and let the world know, this is it.

In some ways it is easier doing all the things you need to do in preparation, than actually declaring to one and all you will be leaving, moving, starting that business, or stepping into what God has purposed you to do, because once you do that, you are saying I am fully engaged to the point of jumping in, trusting God that what He spoke to me about will now come to pass.

When we were preparing to serve God overseas, we had done a lot of preparation to leave, including fundraising, but we had not placed a concrete time on when we would leave. We wanted all our ‘ducks to be in a row’ – everything in place, before we announced a date, or at least a month we would leave the shores of our home country.

Many people encouraged us in our call, but the one question everyone kept asking us was; “When are you actually going.”

The more people who asked us that question, the more we felt God was impressing upon us to put a date on it. We decided to pray individually and see what date we both came up with. Both of us came up with the same month. Suddenly we felt a shift in our hearts which made leaving even more real. We decided to work backwards from the agreed month of departure to where we were at that moment in time. We then spoke that month out to all who asked and trusted God to bring all things together.

By speaking it out and trusting God, we saw Him do miraculously all that was left to do in record time which grew our confidence to put a date on the month.

James 2:22 tells us it is faith and works, working together – one without the other is dead. We need to exercise both faith, like it all depends on God, and works, like it all depends on what we put into action, which brings life to the dreams and goals of our heart.

Bless you, Deb
