What have you set in motion?

I heard a very good quote the other day which may encourage those of you who are going through transition:

DON’T LOOK BACK AT WHAT YOU HAVE ACHIEVED, BUT WHAT YOU HAVE SET IN MOTION.

What I like about this quote is that it suggests to me that all past ‘achievements’ we have done, or those which we are passing on – which by the way, were put in our hands by God anyway – were there to ignite something that would be lasting for His glory, way beyond our involvement.

It’s natural look at what you had or did in the past season, or about to transition out of, however dwelling on that season too long will cause your focus to be on ‘what I did then’ or ‘who I was then’ or ‘who will I be after.’ Such self-talk will only cause you to get stuck where you are, holding on to the past and missing out on the season God has planned and purposed for you now or about to step into. Even if the path ahead is not comepletely clear to you, be assured it is crystal clear to God, and as you take the step of faith forward, clarity will come.

I love what Andy Stanley once said: ‘Replace yourself, and you will always have a place.’ Be assured, there will always be a place for you. There is so much for you to explore in each season God has for you. Your job is to attune your ears to the voice of the Holy Spirit and to keep your eyes fixed on God to see what He is unveiling.

Can I encourage you to celebrate what you have done and the fact it continues to grow and develop as it should, but focus on what God has for you now or what He is preparing you for in the days to come.

One last thing, and let this be your anchor point, especially as seasons change in your life, your identity is in Christ, not in what you do, because what you do will change. He desires for you to continually become more Christ-like, and what He puts in your hands to do in each season is not only for your benefit, but to serve others.
