Who is your burden carrier

In my book ‘Out of Control’, I wrote about five friends – pastors and leaders, who had wrestled with God, to ultimately relinquish control over difficult life situations they faced during their lifetime. To articulate their story for others to glean from, I asked them to answer these four questions:

  • What was the situation you felt you needed to control?
  • What do you feel was the root cause of the need to be in control?
  • How did you work with God, wrestle with God, to get a breakthrough in this area?
  • Understanding that Jesus is your burden carrier, what was your process of handing over control of the issue or situations you have carried?

Life can throw us curve balls sometimes and our default response can often be one of control – to be the saviour in the situation. At times we do have the very solution needed for these circumstances, but when a burden is greater than us, who do we turn to?

28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NLT

If Jesus promises to only give us light burdens, who then are we to give the heavy ones to? JESUS, of course!

I learnt this lesson myself when I had to answer those very same questions I asked my friends, This came about after being burdened down with many difficult situations that arose in my family over a short period of time. I felt overwhelmed. The Holy Spirit reminded me that it was Jesus’ portfolio to carry these burdens that were too much for me, and that I needed to hand to Him what only He could carry.

Why not consider the four questions for yourself. If you want to read how I, and others handed over the heavy burdens of life, get a copy of my book ‘Out of Control’ here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09RQWMMJ7?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_QW95ETHDHYBAGVRHZSNA
